A no messing around guide to the coolest things to eat, drink and do in Vancouver and beyond. Community. Not clickbait.

HONOUR BOUND: The “Growing Chefs!” Program Is On The Lookout For Volunteers

(photo credit: Hamid Attie) The good folks at Growing Chefs! Chefs for Children’s Urban Agriculture are currently accepting volunteer applications for their Classroom Gardening and Cooking Program.

Join ranks with some of the city’s best chefs and help kids learn how to grow and cook their own food. The volunteer commitment is minimal – four hours a month for three and a half months. Volunteer orientations start this weekend and run through March. All are welcome to apply–the program includes volunteers from both back and front of house, as well as interested community members. Restaurant experience is an asset, but not required.

Growing Chefs! Chefs for Children’s Urban Agriculture gets kids excited about good, healthy food. In their Classroom and Cooking Gardening Program, volunteers are paired with elementary school classrooms (grades 1-6) to give students hands-on experience with gardening, cooking, and urban agriculture. Since 2005, more than 300 chefs and restaurant staff from around Vancouver have taken part.

Growing Chefs! is one of the most impactful programs for local kids out there. If you think you can help out, click here for all the info. Pass it on.
