TEA & TWO SLICES: On Sexual Economics And “Fiscal Cliff” The Cartoon Character

by Sean Orr | Wente on Men (not literally, of course): Why won’t guys grow up? Sexual economics. “To qualify as good marriage material, a young man used to have to show he could work hard, compete successfully, commit to family life, be a good provider and gain respect in the community.” Now all we have to do is say some funny shit on Twitter, “Like” a couple of Facebook posts, and boom…

There’s no such thing as small government example #47 Flaherty update shows fiscal conservatism in retreat. “It’s becoming eminently clear that Canada no longer has a conservative party. It has a liberal party, wearing blue”. A bold sentiment indeed, but politics nowadays has little to do with differences on the economic spectrum and is more of a spectacle of social issues that serve only to sidetrack voters, thereby leading to voter apathy and liberal disillusionment.

Which leads to the Tweet Of The Day (and a little nepotism to boot) c/o my brother, Jonathan Orr: “Has someone made a friendly but economics obsessed postman puppet called Fiscal Cliff yet?”

If I had 20 dollars in my bank account I would just ride around all day for free and just be like, Hey look! I got a new 20 dollar bill: New twenty dollar bills not working on Translink ticket machines. Also, if I had some bacon I could make some bacon and eggs if I had some eggs.

Real Cost, Real Talk: Cars driving up the costs of health care in British Columbia. At the same time, Mr. Ladner, this is why we tax the shit out of gas – not to mention potentially other disruptive pastimes like smoking, drinking, gambling, and all that other fun stuff.

But then again, I could be wrong: TransLink increasing fares by 10 percent on January 1. If you take Mr. Ladner’s article, multiply it by this one, divide it by this Tweet, and what you have is Translink = does not compute.

And that’s not even taking this into account: Vancouver in ‘urgent’ need of upgrades to transit, water systems, Mayor Gregor Robertson says. If that isn’t scary enough, if there ever was a disaster, who you gonna call? Keep coins handy in case of disasters. Oh, and let me guess…we’ve made massive cuts to our emergency response a la FEMA? Yup. Enter The Shock Doctrine.

I won a Courier caption contest but mine wasn’t even the funniest. I’m pretty sure it’s just a ploy to get me and Mark Hasiuk in the same room to see what happens.

Sports: CFL fines Stampeders receiver Lewis. “On Tuesday, Lewis tweeted: “I just bought OJ’s gloves on eBay. Now all I need is a white girl named Nicole.” What? Go Lions.

  1. “It has a liberal party, wearing blue”? Pfft. These Conservatives have always been good, old-fashioned Victorian trade liberals – you know, the type that brought us industrial blight, sweatshops, and ultimately the Great Depression – while the Liberals have been the party of conservative economic policy. It’s only on social issues that the Cons might be considered conservative, and even then their positions are sufficiently extreme that “radical” is probably a better word.
