SMOKE BREAK #966: On What Not To Do When You Notice A Bear In Your Backyard
This video is making the rounds. It depicts a guy acting like a bit of a douche in front of a black bear on what I assume is his property. He sounds like he’s from British Columbia. If I were to try and pin his accent it would be Abbottsford by way of Maple Ridge (not that there’s anything wrong with that, except for maybe the Canucks Riot). Anyway, internet folks are pretty well up in arms about it, saying the fellow who made the video is a first class idiot for challenging a bear. Personally, I think it’s his nauseating swagger that is really pissing people off. He has the tone of the prototypical bro. Of course, some might say that he does exactly what you’re supposed to do when confronted by a bear. When confronted, you’re supposed to make a lot of noise and make yourself bigger to scare the fuzzy off. In this instance, however, it seems as if the dude is the one doing the confronting. And chasing the bear? Man, I don’t know. That just seems stupid, especially when he could have stepped back into his kitchen. If the bear had attacked him, it most definitely would have been hunted down and shot.
