(VANCOUVER, BC) | This year’s 23rd Annual Vancouver Magazine ‘Restaurant Awards’, held on Monday, April 23rd, added a new category of special distinction in recognition of an individual who has gone above and beyond when it comes to teaching and mentoring the next generation of cooks and chefs. Proudly Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts’ Executive Chef Julian Bond became the inaugural recipient of the ‘Mentorship Award’. The award joins industry-lauded ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, ‘Green Award’ and, Front-of-House Service Award’ under the auspicious ‘Special Awards Category’.

In front of a room full of peers, friends as well as, former students Julian Bond had this to say about receiving this new and prestigious award, “We all meet here once a year and when I walk around the room I see former students now sous chefs, executive chefs all in a world of their own making and that makes me extremely proud”. Julian further went on to say, “We are all cooks but to truly become a chef we must pass on our craft and pass it on correctly”.

“Julian Bond has shaped and added to our culinary community in a very serious and significant way and we all owe him a debt and gratitude because he does this with a force of spirit, personality and energy”, is how DJ Kearney, judge for both Vancouver Magazine’s ‘Restaurant Awards’ and ‘International Wine Awards’ not to mention dear friend, presented Julian Bond with the inaugural ‘Mentorship Award’.

On Julian’s award Sue Singer, President and Founder of Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts had this to say, “He has passion for his chosen career, offers encouragement and mentorship not only for our current students but our alumni; selflessly dedicating hours and hours”. Further adding, “He is sincere, has a wonderful sense of humour and has an extensive knowledge with strong leadership skills but still remains humble. Julian is someone whom I admire both professionally and personally. I am thrilled for him and his family; it is well deserved”.

Julian Bond has taught, inspired, mentored, coached, encouraged as well as, befriended many people on his path as a chef and culinary educator. Proudly, a remarkable 1,700 graduating students take with them not only his passion but also his culinary stewardship, whether they practice their trade in Vancouver, British Columbia or around the world. With an open-door policy and an educated exuberance as well as, an endless willingness to lend a hand Julian Bond is always ready for his next culinary venture with his signature smile of approval. Congratulations Julian Bond on receiving this well deserved Vancouver Magazine ‘Restaurant Awards’ inaugural ‘Mentorship Award’.
