Seen In Vancouver #355: Virginie & Bastien’s Fresh Eyes On Vancouver’s Neighbourhoods

Virginie Lamarche and Bastien Desfriches Doria are two photographers from France hosting awesome film photography workshops in Vancouver. Over the next several months, they will be exploring/shooting our neighbourhoods with the fresh eyes of keen imports. Bastien uses black and white films in various formats while Virginie focuses on colour negative films. For their first Seen In Vancouver session with Scout, they began on the backstreets of their own neighbourhood, Commercial Drive…

    1. I have an old manual and was thinking of trying it out with a roll of film on the weekend. I’m a beginner, not ready to think about developing my own film yet. Can you recommend somewhere to have colour film developed?

    2. Hello Sarah,

Yes of course, I would recommend going to “The Lab” in Vancouver, they’re in my opinion pretty good and have super fast turn around times! The address is 295 2nd Ave East (2nd and Main), the phone is (604) 876-1737, and the price for one 35mm color roll process only is $6 (usually done in 2 h).

You know at VNB we’re also offering a film photo Crash Course that covers about everything regarding manual cameras, lenses, manual exposure and so forth without delving into film processing at all. It’s a great way to make a first controlled step in film photo while getting to know your old trusty camera better! Here’s a link, if that interests you:

Registration is opened for Sat. May 5th 10 am to 1 pm!

Hope you find shooting your film camera a blast!
