TEA & TWO SLICES: On Voter Apathy And What The Hell Is Going On At 200 Granville?

November 15, 2011.

by Sean Orr | What it’s all about: Elizabeth May backs Supreme Court challenge against first-past-the-post elections. Maybe we can solve voter apathy by having a nation-wide referendum on electoral representation (with a 60% majority needed to win). That was a joke, of course. I’ve been writing about politics for too long.

Not as big as Rick Perry’s oops, but an oops nonetheless: NPA endorsement brochure leaves out some candidates.

Nothing really matters: Five basic things you need to know about the Vancouver civic election. Kind of makes the Get Your Vote On people look silly.

Silly as strategy: What will Mayor Gregor Robertson cut or not cut next? It could be anything! Fake attack ads FTW. Also, I wonder if Cam Reed had to lobby hard to pronounce “You are all” as “J’all”?

A Message about Family from RJ Aquino. He’s our Pacquiao.

Get scared: What’s going on in the Gobi Desert? More importanly, what’s going on at 200 Granville Street? Both are complete mysteries.

It’s also a mystery as to why the Vancouver Sun chose to publish an unauthorized press release by a single member of the #OccupyVancouver camp. Sadly, that one, lone dude is more coherent than anything the official media team (who even managed to get Allen Garr against them) has put out. He also rules at satire.

Meanwhile, over in Halifax, the city that just got a huge warship contract (aka the city that almost exploded itself) actually chose to forcibly evict their Occupy camp on a day of peace.

Bonus: Tactical Briefing. Something tells me Postmedia/CTV Global won’t be covering this press release.

Tea & Two Slices A cup of tea, a couple of slices of toast, and Sean Orr…

Sean Orr started writing letters to the editor after he dropped out of Geography at UBC, although the two are unrelated. Shortly after that, this thing called blogging was invented and he started writing for Beyond Robson until Andrew Morrison came to him with Scout. Aside from being good at stirring things up, Sean is a photographer, a musician (frontman in the hardcore-punk band Needs), and a resident of Gastown, where he is employed as a dishwasher at L’Abattoir.
