Vancouver, BC | Now that the sun is (finally) shining, and summer is just around the corner, it’s time to plan your local gourmet weekend getaway. Due to demand, we’ve expanded our Gourmet Kayaking Adventures in 2011 to include B&B-based weekends as well as beach camping – all centered on delicious and fresh seasonal food and BC wine of course! NEW B&B Based Weekends – Tenting it not for you? Luxuriate your nights away in a comfortable and quiet B&B on Vancouver Island, and spend the days kayaking and exploring the stunning coast. Enjoy a spectacular seafood feast on the beach on your first night, with locally sourced delicacies. And on your last night, we’re bringing in your own private chef to prepare a multicourse, wine paired dinner for you.
Friday ~ We’ll meet in Nanaimo mid-Friday morning, go the B&B and check in. Have a leisurely lunch in Ladysmith while meeting your travel companions. The afternoon will be spent kayaking in the shallow and calm waters off Ladysmith, before making your way via water to a private beach for cocktails and appies. Return to the B&B for showers and freshening before heading off to have a specialty seafood feast on a local beach near the B&B.
Saturday ~ After a hearty home cooked breakfast at your B&B, we’ll head out on our kayaks for a stunning tour of the islands and coastlines. We’ll lunch on a remote beach, fuel for the exploratory ride back to Vancouver Island. Return to the B&B late afternoon to find cocktails and appies awaiting you, then it’s off to shower and freshen up before your multicourse, wine paired, private chef dinner at the B&B.
Sunday ~ You’ll have another home cooked breakfast at the B&B before heading out on a peaceful paddle, or adventurous sorts can try stand up paddleboarding. The group will return to Transfer Beach for a farewell lunch before heading off to catch a late afternoon ferry back to the mainland.

The weekend trips depart from Nanaimo, Vancouver Island on Friday morning and return Sunday afternoon. All meals, beverages, gear and accommodations are included in the price. You just need to arrive ready for a weekend of incredible views, delicious food, premium wine and lasting memories.

About Eric Pateman, President & Founder
Edible British Columbia was created by Eric Pateman in the spring of 2005. Eric is a Vancouver native with a lifelong passion for food and wine. He has worked in the hospitality industry for over 15 years both as a chef and hotel consultant and has rated restaurants for the Mobil Travel Guide. Eric’s own culinary travels have taken him throughout North America, to the UK and to Africa where he has sought out unique food experiences. Edible British Columbia is the product of Eric’s fervor for great food and wine, his extensive knowledge of the hospitality industry and an enthusiasm for exceeding expectations when it comes to customer service. Eric is a past board member of the BC Culinary Tourism Society and the Vancouver Coast & Mountains Tourism Region. Eric is also a member of the Chef’s Table Society, Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver and supports many local charities including the Vancouver Food Bank and Les Dames D’Escoffier. Eric was named as one of Business in Vancouver’s Top 40 Under 40 Business People in 2007, and to Western Living Magazine’s list of the Top 40 Foodies Under 40 in Western Canada in 2008.
In the Summer of 2011, Edible British Columbia will be opening a new multipurpose culinary centre on Granville Island called Edible at the Market. Plans include a wine and tapas bar, expanded retail store, demonstration kitchen, bustling patio space, take out window and a gourmet-to-go section.

Eric worked with us to customize a honeymoon that offered relaxation, luxury, and culinary greatness. Every last detail was taken care of — hotel, car and ferry reservations (including the honeymoon suite at a Sooke B&B and a beautiful room at the Pan Pacific), dinner reservations at prime times and prime tables, picnics and hiking suggestions, and guided tours. Highlights included an extraordinary meal at West’s chef’s table, a romantic meal at sunset at the Pointe, and a dim sum tour of Richmond with Stephanie Yuen. It was terrific to have someone take such careful note of our desires and dislikes (our menus regularly featured favourite foods such as oysters and crab, and addressed food allergies), stay within our budget, and yet balance that with freedom and down time. Most importantly, after planning our entire wedding, we were able to sit back, eat, drink and most of all ENJOY, the beauty and of British Columbia. We’d return tomorrow if we could!”
