The GOODS from Cibo Trattoria

Vancouver, BC | Close your eyes. Picture the sea. Imagine fresh seafood and grass-fed livestock roaming the island hillside. At the end of the day, you sit down to a relaxing meal with good friends, a glass of fabulous wine and embark on a culinary experience of the local cuisine of Sardinia. Well, for those of us who can’t quite yet pry ourselves away to the Isle of Sardinia, we do have a wonderful alternative right here in the city for a few hours.

Come and taste the cuisine from the oasis island of Sardinia, Italy at Cibo Trattoria’s next event in their Italian Regional Dinner series. This month, the Sardinia Dinner event is to be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 and Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 5pm into the late evening. This four course dinner set at $48 with an optional and exquisite $48 wine pairing represent the culture, ingredients and rich history of traditional Sardinian meals.

Sardinia, the second largest island in the Mediterranean, has one of the most insular regional and unique cuisines in all of Italy. The food of Sardinia reflects the different waves of invasion by outsiders over the centuries. Romans, Spaniards, mainland Italians and Arabs all left tangible influences of the cuisine, language and culture. As sheep are vital to the economy, pecorino sardo is a unique and special product. Game, lamb, pork and goat dishes are popular in the interior of the island, while around the coastline the emphasis is on fish and seafood in all its forms.  Sardinians have been making wine for thousands of years, with the majority of vines in Sardinia being distinctive from those found in the rest of Italy.

The Sardinia Dinner menu created by Executive Chef Neil Taylor features:

Bruschetta of scrambled egg with mullet bottarga

“Malloreddus”- cherry tomatoes, chili, basil and pecorino sardo

“Cassola”- Sardinian fish stew with saffron, chili, fennel, cherry tomatoes and  oregano

“Sebadas”- crispy ravioli stuffed with pecorino and orange blossom honey

Cibo’s Sardinia Dinner is featured next Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Reservations are recommended and can be made online at www.cibotrattoria.ca or by calling 604.602.9570.
