Scout List: Our Eclectic Agenda For Discerning Vancouverites…

The main objective of this website is to scout out and promote the things that make Vancouver such a sweet place to be. We do this with an emphasis on the city’s independent spirit to foster a sense of connectedness within and between our communities, and to introduce our readers to the people who grow and cook our food, play the raddest tunes in our better venues, create our most interesting art, and design everything from what we wear to the spaces we inhabit.

The Scout List is our carefully considered, first rate agenda of super awesome things that we’re either doing, wishing that we could do, or conspiring to do this week. From our calendar to yours…

ART

Emily Carr’s Animation Department is holding a student art sale featuring original artwork, artist’s prints, hand-made crafts this weekend.

I like the look of the Stuart Slind exhibition at the Bau-Xi Gallery. From the Gallery: The style and mood of his paintings may come from the past but the content is personal and of the present. “For me to be able to paint an image, I need to be able to connect it with my reflective intuitive life. If it has no personal meaning, I can not paint it. My painting is a personal, intimate practice by which I try to make real the more ephemeral emotional aspects of myself. In particular, that tangled area of hopes, faith and meaning.”
Until March 23 | Bau-Xi Gallery (3045 Granville) | Free | Details

I’m also digging the Sasha Rogers show at the Jennifer Kostuik Gallery. Its called Liminal Space and it makes me wish I were loaded.

Here’s a question for you: What if Direct Experience of the Natural World Were a Central Part of Our Education? And not just reading about it or watching it live streaming? “What if science education focused on experiencing the natural world as well as learning about it from books? In this way we can increase our appreciation and awareness of the interconnecting needs of other life on our planet and make this world a better place in which to live.” Interested in finding out more?
