“Skateistan” Slideshow And Films To Be Shown At Antisocial

Our friends over at Antisocial welcome back two ladies from Afghanistan where they have been teaching kids how to skateboard:

When people in Canada think about Afghanistan one of the last things that probably comes to mind is skateboarding. But since 2007, a small NGO called Skateistan has been teaching hundreds of Afghan girls and boys how to skateboard, and more importantly, how to believe in themselves and the future of their country.

Two of Vancouver’s favourite skateboard ladies have just returned from a 5 month volunteering mission at Skateistan’s educational/skate facility in Kabul. Antisocial would like to welcome back Rhianon and Erika!

The Main St. store is hosting a little fundraiser with a slideshow and two short films about the Skateistan project this Saturday, November 20th. The doors open at 7:30pm.

*Regular readers will remember that Rhianon Bader was a Scout contributor before she left on this trip. We’re super happy that she’s back, safe and sound.
