Tea & Two Slices: On Artful Tax Dodges & Retractable Budgets

Cheaper-Show-crowd

by Sean Orr | So apparently the triple-over-budget convention centre expansion wasn’t big enough and will need expansion in 5 years. Let’s try and get the World Cup or maybe a G20 Summit and make that happen, too. Oh, and whatever roof we put on it, can we make it retractable? You know…as in later on?

BC seeking framework for new ‘hybrid’ businesses with social missions. A fancy name for the government offloading it’s social responsibilities onto charities, or a pitch by the Minister of Finance to make good for his HST sins?

How ‘It Gets Better’ amounts to talking with a corpse in your mouth. And we all know how hard that is…

New York bed bug peril goes global, sinks teeth in UN building. Yeah yeah, been there, done that. Why is the rest of the world always…like…soooo far behind? Gawd.

B.C.’s Campbell cuts income taxes 15%. If I may begin by quoting Kulpreet Singh: “BC, honey, I promise it won’t happen again. This time I mean it. I’ll get therapy. I’m a new man. I bought you this gift…”. Now just imagine somebody like, oh let’s just say an Adrian Dix or a Gregor Robertson saying the following words instead Carol “Everybody Hates Me For No Fucking Reason Other Than I’m A Woman And I’m Not Going To Play Your Chauvinistic Little Games” James: “He failed miserably. He talked down to taxpayers. He’s trying a desperate move tonight. The public’s not going to buy it.”

And if that doesn’t work, well then, take-it-away Vaughn Palmer, ancient and loyal defender of the public good: “I’m staying. Deal with it”.

Two towers may rise from old Opsal Steel site. Holy shit can we collectively calm the fuck down? Are we even going to have enough people to live in all these towers? Can we market them hard enough? So many questions! I’m getting all excited!

Thats because it’s *too busy*. Usually when your business is too busy and you need to expand its a good thing. You may not understand, since your business seems to be to whine about everything. And too much whining is just annoying.

  2. The point is, they failed to properly research other convention centre expansions, and to calculate capacity. Am I going to celebrate spending another 5 million on something that cost almost 900 million? Nope.

  3. And if they would of spent 1.1 billion and it was half full, you would of complained about that. Complaining is easy man, in fact nothing is easier. That why hardly has any value.

I’m not asking to be rude, I’m actually asking, what are you building or actually contributing ?

  4. Opsal is heeeee-larious. “So … uh … this cardboard box is, like, 100-yrs old or something. If I tape it up, can I build a 3000-ft. chrome wang?”

  5. Well yeah, if it was half full it would have meant it was also poorly researched. Man your sense of cause and effect is all out of whack! You come on here and ask me to quantify myself? What do you want me to say, that I ran for MLA? Or perhaps I could say that “I’m just the messenger”. If being as cynical as I am is easy, and if “nobody wants to hear it” and if bloggers are somehow also responsible for fixing the things they see as absurd or corrupt, then perhaps you are right. Then again, it must therefore be fucking hard to see with rose coloured glasses all the time. You’d have to be on fucking crazy pills to think that the Provincial Government are in any way competent or adherent to democratic principles and have in any way under their term made this province any better at all. They made the economy worse than the NDP, but they also managed to triple homelessness, freeze minimum wage, unfreeze tuition, bungle the RAV line, the convention centre, sell our rivers, illegally slash contracts, decimate welfare, have the worst child poverty, and be liked by 9% of the fucking population. And you come on here and try and tell me that I’m fucking whining? Back to the cave with ye.
