The Interior Design Show West is here and it ain’t all tile, lighting and California closets. It all goes down from October 14th to the 17th at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Price of admission is $15 (Opening Night $20). Read our top 10 reasons to hit this year’s show and browse a bunch of photos from the preview after the jump…
1. The Venue | If you haven’t had occasion to visit the new Vancouver Convention Centre, get on it. Designed by Seattle architects LMN (who worked in collaboration with Vancouver-based Musson Cattell Mackey and DA Architects & Planners), the building has a LEED Canada Platinum rating and a 6-acre living roof. It’s worth a gander.
2. Opening Night | This won’t be just any opening night. The clever folks over at Cause+Affect are pulling it together (the same purveyors of cool that hook you up with a regular fix of Pecha Kucha). Cause + Affect plan to throw down with some Hot One Inch Action, have lined up some stellar local musical talent and are screening a film (“The 5ifty”). Get the full scoop here.
3. Martha Sturdy | Always good to see what Martha has on the go.
4. Brent Comber | He’s got to be one of Vancouver’s coolest, most grounded designers. I love everything he touches.
5. CoRkEd DeSiGnS challenge | Six designers exhibit ‘design forward products’ made exclusively from corks. Nathan and Trevor of Contexture have something up their sleeve. I can’t wait to see what.
6. The Inside The Box competition | Six Interior Design Institute of BC member firms create original installations, with the added challenge of creating the 8ftx8ftx8ft ‘box’ or structure to house the installation. Find out more…
7. The preform pre-designed modular home. Preform has it going on.
8. Collect | Six local galleries display work that will appeal to discerning collectors AND those just starting out. As a long time member of the ‘just starting out’ camp – I’m hoping to score something cool for a bedroom wall at this exhibit. Details.
9. Marimekko | Just. So. Great.
10. Finally | check out the exhibition of works by communication, industrial, and architectural design students. Emerging talent is always inspiring.
