Scout List: Our Agenda Of Super Cool Stuff To Do In Vancouver

late-sept-2009-1-003

The main objective of this website is to scout out and promote the things that make Vancouver such a sweet place to be. We do this with an emphasis on the city’s independent spirit to foster a sense of connectedness within and between our communities, and to introduce our readers to the people who grow and cook our food, play the raddest tunes in our better venues, create our most interesting art, and design everything from what we wear to the spaces we inhabit.

The Scout List is our carefully considered first rate list of super awesome things that we’re either doing, wishing that we could do, or conspiring to do this week. From our calendar to yours…

If you hurry, swing by “there’s no junk at this trunk” jewelery trunk show at Walrus. It’ll be awesome: “Meet the designers, have a drink, be the first to see their newest pieces…and while you’re at it, enjoy a free make up touch up by the gals of beautymark.”

Once you’re dolled up and properly accessorized, you’ll be ready to hit one of the oodles of opening receptions going on tonight. The Contemporary Art Gallery of Vancouver throws down with Following the A Line. Grace Gallery is opening a show of Jennifer Mawby’s new works (info here). Presentation House Gallery brings you Flakey: Early Works of Glenn Lewis. This exhibition is launched with a Glenn Lewis kimchee cooking demonstration performance. Beat that. Plus there’s an opening for the exhibition showcasing Emily Carr’s Design, Media + Visual Arts Faculty.

Oh, and it’s time for Swarm. In case you haven’t heard of it, Swarm is an annual festival organized by the Pacific Association of Artist Run Centers. There will lots going on, all of it fun.

This year’s Davie Day includes some cool sounding bits that will set Davie apart other neighbourhood celebrations. I’m particularly impressed by the description of the ‘heritage zone’ that will feature old-fashioned lollipops, blacksmith demonstrations and a photographer taking turn-of-the-century pictures. Not your typical facepainting/bouncy castle action. Thanks Davie Street BIA!

late-may-2009-169Michelle Sproule grew up in Kitsilano and attended Bond University in Australia and the University of Victoria before receiving her graduate degree in Library Sciences from The University of Toronto. She lives in beautiful Strathcona and enjoys wandering aimlessly through the city’s shops and streets with her best friend – a beat up, sticky, grimy, and uncooperative camera.
