Late Night Licenses Begin To Appear In Time For Xmas Cheer

A few weeks ago I was about to turn up a flight of stairs off Davie to review a new Spanish tapas restaurant called Mis Trucos for the paper when I saw a notice on its outer wall declaring and detailing the restaurant’s intent to seek out an extended 2am liquor license. I’ve seen several of these signs since and not a few before, but this one was particularly special because owner/chef Kris Barnholden had painstakingly painted it himself using a board, some black and white paint, and a projector (he told me he didn’t want to waste any time or money outsourcing a job he could have done in-house). Barnholden was one of the first to apply for the new (and long overdue) liquor license extensions granted by the no-fun nabobs at City Hall, and we’ve just heard that he has been one of the first to receive a green light. The restaurant is now open until 1am Sunday through Thursday and until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights (ooh, and $6 gets your three tapas after 10pm).
