BREAKING: City Council Removes Foot And Balks The 50/50 Rule

Good news and bad news. The good news is that in a stunning volte face, the spectacularly retarded decision by Vancouver city council to institute a dreaded 50/50 rule* has been tossed. The recently passed and nearly enforced (phew) rule would have seen Vancouver food primary licensees compelled to ensure that booze would never account for more than 50% of sales. I know, wicked stupid. Such a law would have taken Vancouver from one of the top food cities in the world to one of the worst, and with a knife in its back.

The bad news is that all of the By-Law No. 4450 amendments have also been dumped, including the extension of restaurant hours. So essentially we’re back to square one. No fun city.

Awesome job.

PS. Many thanks to the people who quickly stood up and said no to what went down as one of the dumbest, most ill-conceived by-laws on the city’s books (and that’s saying something).
