DHM Turning Centro To “Cinema” And Bogart’s To “The Academic”

IMG_6394
Centro at 901 Granville Street is in chrysalis, awaiting the opening of "Cinema Public House"

Donnelly Hospitality Management (think The Granville Room, The Modern, Republic, and more) is in the process of developing two new properties. The first is Bogart’s Chophouse at 1619 West Broadway, which is under construction now to become a pub/restaurant called “The Academic”. It should be open just prior to Christmas. The second is the old Centro space on the Granville Strip, probably one of the best and (hitherto) under-utilized location in the city (901 Granville, pictured above). Another pub/restaurant will land here, dubbed “Cinema Public House”, due at some point after Christmas and before the Games.

PS. Remember Bimini’s burning down on West 4th exactly three years ago today? It’s on its way back, too, with a projected opening date set for first quarter, 2010.

  1. Can we stop calling bars “public houses”? It sounds ridiculous, and is quickly becoming a cliche.

    OR:

Is this name due to some ridiculous liquor law? I heard the Three Lions Cafe intended to used the name Three Lions Pub but had to change it due to licensing laws.
