We just received a media invite to preview the Glowbal Group’s new 200 seat Coast restaurant at 1054 Alberni (an official hyperbole-laced press release fast on its heels)…The massive, Box Interiors-designed seafood joint (a transplant of the first Coast in Yaletown which Scout previewed here) is set to officially open on the 10th of July. With its prime, concierge-friendly location and 24 seat oyster bar, it really looks and sounds like Glowbal Group president Emad Yacoub is trying to give Joe Fortes a run for its money. From the release:
“With a back-to-basics seafood menu, COAST will showcase the best quality seafood served with classic style,” says proprietor, Emad Yacoub. “This is a place where diners can slurp icy oysters, crack into a crab claw and savour a rich chowder, along with a crisp glass of wine or a nice, chilled beer.”
That even smells like Joe Fortes. It’s almost as if Mr. Yacoub used to work there as a chef way back in the day. Perhaps they messed with his menu and this is 8,200 square feet of sweet revenge. But that would just be too weird, no?
