CSA Dinner With The Farmers At The Always Reliable “Bishop’s”

say hello to Lemon Verbena Panna Cotta with Nootka Rose Honey Gelee, Rhubarb Broth and Alpine Strawberries...

I had an outstanding meal at Bishop’s with some friends and colleagues the other night. This was the second in the restaurant’s summer series of Producer’s Dinners, and I was accordingly very keen to see what the kitchen would do with their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) box full of mysterious, freshly-harvested local ingredients sourced from farms in the city and Aldergrove. Special guests were the producers themselves, David Catzell of Fraser Common Farm and Ward Teulon from City Farm Boy.

Chef Andrea Carlson and John Bishop (interview) had no idea as to the contents of their box until it arrived in the kitchen that day. As you can see from the menu above and the photos above (sorry about the grainy quality – high ISO and no flash), they didn’t miss a beat. When combined with the caliber of service offered by default here, it was a doozy of a dinner. Two nights later…still thinking about it…
