Local Sushi House “Miku” Goes Sustainable With Ocean Wise

late-may-2009-064
Miku GM Tai Hasumi listens as Ocean Wise's Mike McDermid speaks on sushi and sustainability at Miku

Michelle and I took the kids round to Miku en route to other obligations the other night. The still new Japanese restaurant (since November) does delicious aburi sushi – lightly seared or blowtorched to release the flavours.

They were hosting a few media to celebrate the launch of their patio and their new Ocean Wise friendly menu, featuring plenty of sustainable seafood (they had some spot prawns making the rounds that were so fresh – wonderful when raw). I hope their efforts inspire other Japanese restaurants to follow suit on the sustainability front. As Mike McDermid from Ocean Wise alluded in his speech: if you love sushi, you have to save it.

From the pre-event presser:

“We are keen to excel in all areas of the dining experience” says General Manager Tai Hasumi “partnering with Ocean Wise underscores our values, we are delighted to have been accepted in to the program.”

A handful of photos after the leap…
