Hunt & Gather To Transition Out Of Gastown

We just learned that Gastown’s gorgeous Hunt & Gather is about to have its biggest sale in its three years of business. “Starting tomorrow (Wednesday Feb. 4th), everything in the store will be up to 60% off. Now, usually the first thing I think when I hear news like that is “uh-oh, someone’s in trouble”, but it sounds more like a move of logical expedience rather than anything particularly tears-worthy, and a sale is a sale. The thing is, the 200 block of Carrall (where the store is located) will be under demo/construction for an estimated four to six months this Spring, and “as Hunt & Gather was originally envisioned as a three-year project”, the store owners say, “this seems like a perfect opportunity for transition”. Transition = expansion of their online store and moving from retail to wholesale. Phew.

Standing proudly and always prettily on the corner of Carrall and Blood Alley, Hunt & Gather was (and, for the time being, still is) one of the first best fashion establishments to open its doors in a neighbourhood now flooded with them, providing the initial strength of character and originality the burgeoning fashion district needed and is now known for (if there are medals for that sort of achievement, we’d be pinning). It was one of the most stylish spaces in the city – certainly one of Gastown’s most iconic – and while we are sad that we will soon see the retail front go (with its occasional art shows, installations, and live performances – sniff), we look forward to how their new model develops online. If you’ve never been before, be sure to check it out while you still can, not only to savour the killer deals but also to pay your respects.

Hunt & Gather is located at 225 Carrall St. and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11am to 6pm.
