Design Find: Lilach Lotan

Even at its most violent, nothing calms me more than the ocean. Little reminders of this calm litter my house. When I leave the beach I slip bits and pieces of beachness into my pockets as if they will ward away the frantic pace of life. I can’t say I love the general aesthetic: pebbles, shells, driftwood and dried kelp in every corner and on every surface. It’s cluttered and chaotic. Sleek, polished and orderly are words I wish described my personal style. But they are not.

I recently fell in love with a lamp by local (Naniamo) potter named Lilach Lotan that appeals to both my inner hippy beachcomber and my sleek and polished ideal. Of her work Lotan explains that her

“designs go beyond creating solutions for specific problems of function and aesthetics. I strive to create an environment, a mood, to evoke emotions.”

Her Funnels Ceramic Lamp ($275) is pictured above. Bingo. Thank you.
